Iphone or ipod. Oh dear. How do you choose which to use for doodling, drawing or painting? Both iPhone and Ipod Touch can give artists and simple scribblers a simply magical sketchbook. Both put artistic expression literally at your finger tips.
Even when the Iphone App Store first opened its doors there were five or six painting and drawing apps to choose from for both the iPhone and the ipod Touch. I tried several. They cost so little. iDoodle, NetSketch and Sketches were closely followed on my iphone palette by iGraffiti and Squiggles.

iPhone Scribble Tree
Since then art apps at the App Store have been reproducing as fast as a warren of rabbits. Brushes and Gesture are two of my new favourites.
Updates for these iphone apps are free and mostly frequent. Whoopee! Yet more finger power for next to nothing.
I have to confess that I’ve been cheating though. Say I come to a full stop because the app I’m using doesn’t do lettering. Maybe it jibs at transparency or can’t add the colour I want. No problem. Promiscuity to the rescue. I simply transfer my drawing to the App that Can. Whichever it may be.

Started in NetSketch. Finished in iDoodle.
But more of the crafty choosing of art applications later. If you’ve got an application, you need something to apply it to. That is, an iphone or an ipod.
I don’t have much doubt the winner is… the iPhone. Mainly for the reason that it has a camera. Even if only to capture the texture of a nearby wall to draw on, a built-in camera enormously expands your artistic possibilities.
Watch this space for the next installment of the great Chicken Drawing enterprise.
Started when the App Store was but newly hatched, this body of Purple Owl research attempts to establish which art app does what. It should be completed by Easter.
Come to think of it, I’m not sure when Easter is this year. Oh well. All you really need to know is that this is your venue if you want to watch some virtuoso iPhone chicken drawing. And frankly, who doesn’t?

Put your worst face forward
Busy hatching my next post, but thought I’d drop by to thank you for your interest. By the way. Worry not, paper will not be forgotten. There’s a problem with paper I’ve been meaning to write about for ages. Sigh…
heeheehee… hen scratch turns to art. As RaShell says… keep handy the pen and ink, and also the Wacom tablet and 1000+ brushes. Seems you just have the sketching bug and simply must take it wherever you go. If I hadn’t just bought a Blackberry I’d HAVE to get the iPhone…
Watching for more from the Owl’s Research dept…
Your posts make me wish I had an iPhone. What fun!
I can’t wait to see the Great Chicken drawing enterprise! How fun :0
Drawing on paper still gives more control. But I’ll say for painting on the iPhone, it’s addictive. And you can get so many varied effects, plus combine in an instant with a photo. It’s certainly a new and fascinating art.
Great doodles! don’t forget pen and paper though
