Incantation
for the calling down of Inspiration
To be sung or chanted. Preferably while dancing round a cauldron.
Hide beneath a raven’s wings,
Snip his shadow while he sings.
Wind it in and wind again,
Wind it in to make the chain.
Creep behind the mirrored reeds,
Steal the image, leave the weeds.
Wind it in and wind again,
Wind it in to make the chain.
Milk the moonlight where it strays
While the lonely bog hound bays.
Wind it in and wind again,
Wind it in to make the chain.
Chase the lightning where it flies,
Catch it ere the thunder cries.
Wind it in and wind again,
Wind it in to make the chain.
Climb the newly-blasted oak,
Reap the flames and leave the smoke.
Bind them in and bind again.
Bind them in to make the chain.

Delighted my favicon owl has perched on your bookmark bar! Favicon is so fickle – now you see it, now you don’t. Of course I send it out but have no way of knowing where it has flown unless somebody tells me.
Thanks too for showing me at your Blog Carnival.
I believe in magic. Its a good thing too. Somehow the purple owl favicon has attached it self to MY blog in my bookmark tool bar. So whenever I look at my toolbar, I know that I am under the supervision of a very wise and creative owl.
I think this was the perfect post to submit to the Inspiration blog carnival. I feel inspired indeed!

Wonderful descriptive poetry Valerie
So glad the spell worked Barb!
Children’s fantasy nothing!!! You have me wanting to close down the laptop and pick up my paint brush!
I once drew a rough graphic of the top of a head, a funnel just above it, opening into the brain, and a huge amount of space above that. What We Know. Of course, what we know is already funneled in. What we’re in the conscious process of learning is in the top part of the funnel, ready to be funneled. And then there’s infinite space beyond that which contains all that is knowable, but not yet within our grasp. That which we’ve not wound in yet, nor bound…
I simply love the simplicity of your visual, which reins in all that isn’t simple.
Your imagery is just beautiful! Inspiration does come from unexpected and hidden places that are in plain sight if you will just look. More poetry, Owl! You have a gift. You were inspired. Karol
Thank you for your appreciation Karol. I wrote this for a children’s fantasy novel – unpublished – quite a long while ago.
