Winter king tourney slated for March 22 March 12, 2014 - 04:48pm Winter king tourney slated for March 22 The 21st annual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament, sponsored by the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, is set for March 22, with lines in the water at 9 a.m. and out by 6 p.m. The one-day event offers several new attractions, including: a category for anglers fishing from kayaks; a live video feed of the weigh-in; an accelerated awards ceremony; a YouTube video contest; a "champion's vest" ceremony; a double "King Me" raffle; a Split-the-Pot raffle; and a $250 prize for the largest white king sponsored by Café Cups. The 2013 tournament was won by Leszek Kuligowski of Anchorage. For reeling in a 35.10-pound king salmon, Kuligowski won $15,393. Registration is available online at homeralaska.org.
