All3sports Blog UCB Employee Spotlight - Rob Truckenmiller

A 2.4-mile swim. A 112-mile bicycle ride And a 26.2-mile run.Raced in that order and without a break. That is an Ironman triathlon. That is Rob Truckenmiller's hobby.Rob Truckenmiller, National Director of Regional and Federal Accounts - Market Access & Pricing, is currently training for his fifth Ironman competition in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A long-time runner, fitness has been a part of Rob's life for many years. As a teenager, Rob's parents fell ill and in his search for a way to pay for a college education, Rob decided to join the U.S. Coast Guard. A member of the Coast Guard for six years, Rob then entered the pharmaceutical world via Johnson & Johnson and has been with UCB since 2005.Given his military background, Rob was no stranger to fitness. He had completed quite a few marathons when he decided it was time to move on to a new challenge. A dare from a friend solidified the idea that triathlons were the next step. Training for this intensive physical competition means a lot of early mornings and a lot of hours of exercise. Rob is often up and running (literally) at 4 a.m. in order to ensure he also has enough time to spend with his wife and two daughters. In the off-season, Rob trains for 10-15 hours per week and at the height of training, Rob is putting in 15 - 20 hours a week.Despite what sounds like an exhausting schedule, Rob finds the training both fun and therapeutic. He enjoys the personal challenge and finds the long workouts soothing as they help to clear his mind. Rob currently races for all3sports.com - being a team sponsored athlete enables him to push himself even further. According to Rob, Ironman competitions are about consistency and discipline - being smart about the way you race. This is an attitude and mantra that guides not only his races, but everything Rob does.
