We don't need heroes, We need team playersAuthor: Mohammed NazariBorn and raised in Iran, I played Soccer as a child. Well "soccer" is the real football, foot - ball, daaaa. I love the game. Should I have been born in Canada I would have been playing the American football definitely.World cup is the only sport event that I watch, mainly the final games. Lionel Messe is known to be one of if not the best soccer player. He is a hero.Watching the finals of 2014 world cup was very interesting. the game between Germany and Argentina. German team did not have any heroes, not that I know of. They played as a team. No one tried to score when not having the best position and rather passed the ball. On the other hand the Argentinean team had a few heroes such as Messe. Those heroes did not hesitate to take their chances trying to score even when they did not have the best positioning, instead of trying to pass the ball to their team mates.Generally the whole game was a match between a "good team", the German team, versus a few "good players" such as Messe. No surprise, the "Team", the German, won, and the heroes remained heroically defeated. If Messe was in Germany, I believe he would never become the hero that he is now. Simply because in Germany he would have to play as a team member and not getting a chance to become one single good player. However winning is more achievable by a good team than a few good players/heroes.I would not be surprised at all if they held a match between every single German versus every single Argentinean player, the Argentinean would win as single players. However when it comes to playing as a team it is a completely different story. The exact same applied to the game between Netherlands and Brazil. A good team against a few good heroes. The same applies to improvements in science. We do not need Einstein, Galilee or Newtons any more. Since nowadays each masters or PHD student contributes a very small amount to the improvements in science. And no surprise, we have had the most advancements in science over the past few years than the prior thousands of years.I believe the media as well as a society we need to avoid encouraging being a hero, and rather celebrate team work.As a matter of fact this is why generally in the less advanced countries and communities, they tend to have or make more heroes and extra ordinaries. Or you are be the best or nothing.Eg in Iran we created an imam Khomeini, portraying him with all good attributes and no faults at all, while in America we have president Clinton and his Monica story. And yet we have a lot of Iranian who are or wish to be in America with a faulty presidents and not American wishing to be in Iran with perfect leader. We are all human with faults and strengths. As a smart community we need to play as a team, using the strength of each team player. We do not need heroes with no fault, they don't exist.
