Atlas Blog I'm Hanna Brictson, Choreographer and Dancer, and This is How I Work Out

Hanna Brictson has spent over three decades working toward flawless movement and health. We spoke with the dancer via email to learn more about her life and career. Keep scrolling! Hanna Brictson, Dancer and Choreographer Start off by telling us about yourself and your journey! My fitness journey is mainly because of my career as a professional dancer. Having danced now for 32 years and 16 of those years professionally dancing around the world, fitness and knowing my body as an athlete became second nature. One of my main goals now is to pass along all of my knowledge and experience in many different conditioning forms to anyone looking to improve their body and fitness. Creating effective workouts from my background in dance, yoga, and physical therapy is my goal. I really got into fitness from when I first was injured quite badly dancing on tour. I was out of work dancing for six months. Slowly coming back, I learned how weak I was in certain places in my body. I needed to start training at the gym to find balance and more strength. To get back to a healthier, smarter, and stronger version of myself for my career as a dancer was my motivation. While going through this experience, I absolutely found my love for fitness! What's your fitness specialty? I am certified in Yoga Sculpt, which is yoga combined with weights and strength conditioning. I melt this into the many conditioning exercises I have done with dance most of my life to create a balanced fitness routine of mainly bodyweight exercises with light resistance. Who are your fitness icons/mentors/heroes/inspiration? My first trainer who got me into working out after my first injury was a trainer based in Chicago named Aaron Manheimer. He is someone I have looked up to as a fitness expert with amazing creativity and knowledge. Taylor Chamberlain Dilk is my IG favorite. She is a tough cookie with a great balance of how to train and stay healthy. I admire her business platform and how she educates others. What’s your go-to song or artist at the gym? My go-to is 50 Cent! I absolutely love some old school hip hop while kicking my butt at the gym. I am one of eight kids in my family, with six brothers! I have trained in ballet since the age of two. I was a nationally ranked swimmer when I was nine years old in the butterfly. What is your greatest achievement and how has it shaped you? My greatest achievement has probably been dancing for the dance company of my dreams. I was hired right after I graduated high school. To be on your own at 18 traveling the world and dancing for eight hours a day with many others older than you was an extremely challenging and inspiring experience. I am definitely the person I am today because of the hardships, the excitement, and the people I met while working for that company. It's a goal of mine to learn to sing and really master it. Follow Hanna on Instagram, and be sure to check out her workouts at BallexBody.
