1119 GMT The FTSE might have hit an all-time high on Tuesday, but infact the index is "actually 80% higher on a total return basis than where it was in 2000," says Gary Paulin, of Aviate Global. He's intrigued by how little fanfare there is about the new record: "While ever fearful of calling the top, this does not seem the anatomy of one," says Paulin. "The guardians of our savings have most of our wealth in negative-yielding assets like gilts, and the lowest percentage of equities in a generation." This, he says, "is fine if we get deflation, but if we don't the rush to the exists could be quite epic."
