Base Formula Blog Enjoy Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh this Christmas

With just under 5 weeks till Christmas my thoughts turned to the true 'traditions of Christmas', an important one being the three Wise Men or Kings, who visited Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gold, frankincense and myrrh were standard gifts to honour a king in the ancient world: gold as a precious metal, frankincense as a perfume or incense and myrrh as an anointing oil. The gifts had great spiritual symbolism, gold represented Jesus' kingship, frankincense a symbol of his priestly role, and myrrh a prefiguring of his death and embalming.
