A new e-bike hire scheme is set to be launched across parts of Dorset. Operator Beryl and Dorset Council said 121 e-bikes would be available across Dorchester, Weymouth and the Isle of Portland later this summer. Users will be able to pick them up and drop them off at Beryl bays, with their locations to be agreed later. Beryl will operate the scheme but the authority will fund the initial set-up costs. The company runs other cycle hire schemes across the country, including in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, the West Midlands, Westminster and Hackney. Phil Ellis, Beryl's chief executive, said Dorset was "not only a picturesque area with plenty to see and do, it also has a clear ambition to encourage more sustainable transport choices". Councillor Jon Andrews, Dorset Council's cabinet member for place services, said: "They offer the perfect way to explore this wonderful area and, with the added electric boost, you'll be able to make light work of the trip."
