Leishmaniasis cases are rising in Thailand, with recent evidence suggesting Culicoides biting midges could be potential vectors ofLeishmania parasites to humans and animals. Accordingly, research into the role of midges as vectors of Leishmania species, in Thailand and elsewhere, is urgently needed to improve vector control and limit disease transmission.
