Boutique-Homes Blog Kuca Fotografa, Novigrad, Croatia

The delightful stone cottage has a great sense of style - and a story to tell. Located in the old town of Novigrad, minutes from the waterfront, it was originally home to a wartime photographer. When Boris Kajmak, a Croatian interdisciplinary artist and designer, found it, it had been empty for many years. The property is now full of life, with its many original features preserved. Special attention was given to finding a balance between local architectural traditions (carefully conserved by the local government), local materials and elements of contemporary design. One of the most interesting features is that it is reached via an internal courtyard. The house itself is very intimate, yet the courtyard opens up to the neighboring houses, giving it a great sense of community - a bridge between public space and private. We love the exposed beams and stone walls, as well as the wooden floors decorated with splashes of tile, and the upstairs bedroom with freestanding clawfoot tub and woodburning stove. Guests who are interested in the history of the house will love the photographs on display throughout - all of which were shot in Novigrad by Nikica. If you're looking for a holiday letting in Croatia, this would be hard to beat.ADDITIONAL FEATURESBedding and towels are provided. The house is equipped with a Bullerjan woodburning stove on the top floor. There is a cordless Bang&Olufsen BeoPlay A2 audio speaker. The kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer, oven, induction cooker, kettle, moka pot, cookware, crockery, cutlery and linen. There is no air conditioning and no television.AROUNDNovigrad, Dalmatia - not to be confused with Croatia's three other Novigrads - is located on the banks of a secluded fjord along the Adriatic coast, and far off the beaten track. In fact it only has 542 permanent residents. In the summer months, this number swells somewhat, with relatives returning home, giving it a gentle buzz.Known for its fishing and traditional folk entertainment, the town is also well located for exploring the great outdoors as it is surrounded by four national parks: Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes, Kornati and Krka. Boat trips can also be arranged.LOCATIONNovigrad, Dalmatia, Croatia.
