We honor those who have challenged injustice and have moved us closer to the values we proclaim but have failed to uphold. Major examples of this include the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, Supreme and lower court cases that struck down injustices, and in the actions of the many individuals who consistently model treating people right in all that they do. We recognize that we are at another one of those milestones in history where a light is being shined on those places where we are still failing to honor and respect all people equally across ethnic, economic, and social groups. While it is uncomfortable in the moment, it is important to think through these issues and to take the opportunity to move closer to the goal of respecting everyone’s rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and to affirm that black lives matter. We are excited and hopeful that this season of accountability and examination will produce lasting positive change. We hope that future generations will look back on this moment in history and see a people who were resolute and intentional about making things better for everyone. In this season of increased and appropriate scrutiny of police procedures and actions, we also want to take a moment to recognize all the police officers who chose this career because of a deep desire to serve their communities and to help people. Keep true to your convictions even when it seems like people don’t see how hard you work to make the world a better place. As travel agents, we spend A LOT of time on hold listening to Disney music and the most inspiring piece in the line-up is “Golden Dream” from The American Adventure at Epcot. It includes a recording of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. saying, “I have a dream this afternoon that the brotherhood of man will be a reality in this day.” It is a good dream and one that we should all work to bring to fruition.
