Cafyne Blog It's Cyber Security Month: Is your Social Media Protected?

October was an exciting month for us. The Department of Homeland Security designated October as Cyber Security Month, which is something near and dear to our hearts. Some of the themes created by the Federal government were "creating a culture of cyber security at work" and "staying protected while always connected". These messages really resonated with us. We're driven by social media security, both in and out of the workplace. This month we also announced general availability of our SaaS Social Media Management tool. While most social media tools focus on just one aspect of social media management, we merge security, risk management and compliance, social publishing and analytics and employee advocacy in one platform. The response to our launch was great! Check out these articles from Forbes, CMS Wire and tech news source Gigaom. All of the articles reinforce our message that for many industries, uncontrolled social media is a recipe for disaster. There's no shortage of stories about social media gone horribly wrong. Earlier this month a social media manager for the Texas Rangers was fired following a post he made on the team's account, instead of his own personal account. Embarrassing yes, but what if something similar happened in a regulated industry, such as healthcare or finance? "Failure can be costly at best and business destroying at worst," said Rohit Valia, Cafyne CEO and founder. "For example, violating HIPAA can result in civil fines ranging anywhere from $100 to $1.5M, with criminal penalties resulting in fines up to $250,000 and sentences up to 10 years in prison. Beyond this, though, your company may face the loss of medical licensing and lawsuits."October may be over but we'll still be talking about the importance of social media security on the health and wellness of your brand.
