Caito Foods: Caito is third firm to recall salads in a week due to allergens

Caito Foods LLC, Indianapolis, has recalled salads with chicken because soy, an allergen, was not listed as an ingredient.The total recall was for less than 1,800 pounds of the salads, according to a May 17 notice from Caito Foods on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service website.The ready-to-eat salads were produced May 12-15 and were shipped to Kroger stores in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.The salads are:"Greek Salad with Chicken" with red wine olive oil vinaigrette dressing in 13.5-ounce plastic square bowl packages, with sell-by dates ranging from May 18-21; and"Tuscan Style Caesar Salad" with grilled white chicken tossed in pest, in 11.25-ounce plastic square bowl packages will sell-by dates ranging May 18-21.The products have the establishment No. P-39985 inside the USDA mark of inspection on the label.Caito discovered the unlabeled allergen during "label verification activities," according to the notice. No illnesses have been reported in relation to the recall. The Caito recall came several days after similar recalls, both on salads containing meat, because of undeclared allergens.On May 15, MIBO Fresh Foods LLC, Fort Worth, recalled 1,460 pounds of salads because they contained anchovies as an ingredient, an allergen that requires notification on labels.The recall covered 9.65-ounce salads labeled "H.E.B. Meal Simple Chef Salad" with homestyle ranch dressing and best-by dates of May 18-20. The retail establishment number on the label is EST. P-27399. They were shipped to retailers in Texas, according to the notice from MIBO.Taylor Farms Texas Inc., Dallas, on May 14 recalled salads, also because of undeclared anchovies, according to a company notice on the FSIS website.The 9.75-ounce H.E.B. Shake, Rattle & Bowl Caesar Salad with Chicken had a best-by day of May 18, and the establishment number was EST. P-34733.
