Travis Green of San Antonio, a Gunnery Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, lost both of his legs above the knee due to injuries sustained while under fire in Afghanistan in 2011.He doesn't let it get him down. He loves to row, hand cycle, and spend time with family. Now, thanks to the Building for America's Bravest (BFAB) program, Atlas Floors Carpet One, and Mohawk Flooring, Travis has a Smart Home that accommodates his individual needs. The BFAB program, run by the Stephen Siller's Tunnels to Towers Foundation, raises money to build Smart Homes for American service members who are catastrophically injured in combat. Each BFAB Smart Home can accommodate wheelchairs with wider doors, automated doors, smooth flooring transitions and special showers and bathrooms. They can accommodate veterans who have lost limbs with automated lighting, cabinets and counters that can be raised and lowered, and heating and cooling systems that can be controlled easily by an iPad.The Smart Home for Green, his wife, Julie, and five children was completed in October 2015.Atlas Floors Carpet One was proud to donate all the tile setting materials and labor for the Green home, using tile graciously donated by Mohawk Flooring."The best thing about the flooring in this home is that we were able to install it with no transitions at all," said Billy Mahone III of Atlas Floors Carpet One. This makes it easier for Travis to move around the space-no possible tripping hazards and very convenient for wheelchair access.Atlas Floors Carpet One will continue to work on future BFAB homes for military veterans like Travis from the South Texas area. This is such a small way to say thank you to one of our bravest! We thank you for your service, Travis Green, and we thank your family for all the sacrifices they made while you served our country!See the photos of the Greens' Smart Home HERE!
