Customers ask us whether or not they should carpet their children's playrooms any differently that the rest of the house. Since this is an area reserved for the hard knocks of children's play, it is totally acceptable.Children like the bold primary colors of red, yellow, blue and green. If your children are really active, we would suggest a blue or green floor. Both colors are supposed to be soothing to the senses. While your children are playing they may absorb some of the harmonious senses of blue or green. That should make any mother happy. If your children are more reserved, red carpeting can rev them up.Next you want to look at the pile and stain protection being offered on the color you have selected. For sure you want something soft that will not scratch their little knees, but you want to have a low, tight pile. If they will be riding their plastic tricycles or running their plastic trucks across the floor, you want it to be an easy process. If the carpet is too high or plush it will slow down the roll of plastic over it. This can and will frustrate the child. It is not a very peaceful scenario.Who has the right colors?Bigelow has a nice selection in blue called Hawthorne. This is a great stain resistant choice. Compass by Millcraft is extremely affordable and is a traditional pile. The blue is very vibrant. Olinda by Bigelow is another good choice. This carpet has a little diamond design in it which makes an interesting pattern. If you want to go with green, Secret Garden by Millcraft will make your children think they are playing in the grass. Here is a bonus idea. Do you have the children's playroom in close proximity to a home office or guest room? Does anyone complain about the noise the children are making when they are trying to work, study or talk on the phone? A very smart move is to carpet the wall that is next to the room where others are trying to work. Carpeting is a natural sound-proofing. You will be carpeting only one accent wall. Since it is the children's playroom you can go with the same color as the floor or choose something entirely different. If your floor is blue, maybe you would like a red accent wall. If the floor is green perhaps you would like bright yellow for the accent. The best thing about playing up the playroom like this is that it is extremely affordable!
