Cenovus: Cenovus provides free firetruck to Lloydminster

A March 5 press release regarding announced a partnership between Cenovus Energy and the Lloydminster Fire Department . The partnership involves the city using Cenovus's aerial ladder truck temporarily while Tower 18 is out for recertification. "During this process, Cenovus-currently storing its ladder truck in preparation for bolstering its on-site emergency services later this year-will provide its T-Rex aerial ladder truck, ensuring the Lloydminster Fire Department maintains full operational capacity," said the city's press release. Tower 18 provides fire suppression and victim rescue. It gives firefighters a stable and elevated platform to work from. "As part of its lifecycle maintenance, the unit is required to receive recertification to meet safety and performance standards." During a recent council meeting, Coun. Jim Taylor asked administration about the costs of obtaining the spare vehicle. The discussion took place during a presentation on the city's aerial unit going for recertification. Officials noted during the meeting there would be no cost to taxpayers. The press release states the agreement is a partnership between Cenovus and the Lloydminster Fire Department. It covers the use of the companies T-Rex aerial truck. Didn't address the cost of use, maintenance or priority of use. However, city communications answered these significant questions after another follow-up email on March 6. "As per the loan agreement, the City of Lloydminster's use of the apparatus takes priority," stated an e-mail response from Nyah Foote, communications co-ordinator for the City. "Should Cenovus request a response to one of its facilities, the Lloydminster Fire Department will respond with the apparatus, provided it is not already engaged in another call within the city." Cenovus also assures the community there is no risk with the City using the multi-million dollar piece of equipment. "The top priority at Cenovus is the safety and protection of our staff and the public," said a statement provided by Cenovus. We want to reassure the community that our site's emergency response needs are being met. The aerial unit is expected to be in service later this year, and once operational, it will enhance our on-site response capabilities."
