Dec. 27-Channellock Inc. was recently recognized for employee safety by the firm's workers' compensation insurer, PMA Companies. The Risk Management Commendation Award goes to a very small percentage of PMA clients who demonstrate a strong commitment to employee safety, effective risk mitigation strategies and contingency planning. Channellock's ongoing safety initiatives and strong employee engagement have contributed to a significant reduction in workplace injuries resulting in fewer work claims over the past three years, according to PMA Companies. "Our ultimate goal is to ensure our associates return home safely to their families," said Jon DeArment, Channellock's president and chief operating officer. "That's why we've made it a priority to implement proactive safety measures and foster open communication channels." Channellock, the maker of tongue-and-grove pliers and other hand tools, has more than 350 full-time employees at its two Meadville facilities. It remains dedicated to the safety of its workers as the company continues to grow, according to Marc Johnston, vice president of operations. "We are proud to maintain an excellent safety record even as we continue to hire and train new employees," Johnston said. "This award speaks to the processes we have set in place and the dedication of both new and long-time associates to create a safe work environment for all."
