Charleston Daily Mail: Charleston Newspapers launches online jobs board

By Paul J. NydenCHARLESTON, W.Va. - On Wednesday, The Charleston Gazette and Charleston Daily Mail will introduce a new website to help people find jobs they want and help employers find people to fill their job openings. The website, WVJobfinder.com, will also help job seekers prepare their professional profiles and offer tips for writing résumés, automatic job-opening email alerts and access to profiles of employers."We feel that the large national job boards ... are not tailored to the needs of West Virginians," said John Kelly, vice president for advertising at Charleston Newspapers, which handles non-newsgathering operations for the Gazette and the Daily Mail. "WVJobfinder.com focuses exclusively on the needs and opportunities within the state of West Virginia."Charleston Newspapers had previously worked with the national jobs site Monster.com, Kelly said."We are working with the West Virginia Press Association to roll this statewide solution to all West Virginia newspapers that wish to participate," Kelly said.Featuring up-to-date employment opportunities from West Virginia's leading employers, the website will give local job seekers coverage of jobs in their local areas, allowing them to find positions in the areas where they live, Kelly said.Features such as online job postings, company profiles and banner ads will be available to companies that advertise with WVJobfinder.com-affiliated newspapers."We hope to attract employers from in and out of the state," Kelly said. He said the site should have thousands of West Virginia jobs listed on the site Wednesday. The trend in the advertising of job openings, Kelly said, began switching from daily newspapers to websites about 10 years ago.Shaker Recruitment Consultants, based in Chicago, designed and developed the new WVJobfinder.com site. Shaker and Charleston Newspapers own the new website jointly.Shaker already has extensive experience in creating job boards and in creating networks of local publishers needed for the success of these projects.Kelly said Shaker's wide variety of clients nationally includes companies like Target, UPS, FedEx and many hospital complexes."It is a family-based company in Chicago that has 4,000 clients nationally," Kelly said.Jennifer Starsick, classified advertising sales manager for Charleston Newspapers, said, "This is truly a promising new day for the employers and job seekers of West Virginia, as well as for the Gazette-Mail. Our entire team believes WVJobfinder.com to be the most significant development on West Virginia's recruitment scene."For more information on WVJobfinder.com, email sales@wvjobfinder.com or call 877-303-7128.Reach Paul J.
