Many moons ago when I was in high school I participated in a mural-painting project via my school's Art Club. It was a mythology-themed mural for an English teacher's classroom and I was in charge of Poseidon's trident. To this day I am a whiz at mythology trivia because I really researched for that painting.When a press release crossed my desk regarding a chemistry-themed mural, it brought me back to those high school days. It's pretty cool that Lanxess, a specialty-chemicals company, asked Naugatuck High School (Naugatuck, Connecticut) students to design a mural to display in the company's local building.Dr. Dave Sikora, head of the Naugatuck Research Center and Global Application Technology for Bromine Solutions, met with art students and teachers multiple times over a period of several months, sharing images of molecules, chemical structures and chemical plants for inspiration."Our students' work will now be seen and admired by visitors to Lanxess from around the world," said Janice E. Saam, Naugatuck High School Principal. "We certainly appreciate the continuing support of Lanxess to our Naugatuck community."Traci Purdum is Chemical Processing's senior digital editor.
