Children's Home Healthcare Blog First-day jitters

The first day of school makes everyone a little nervous. Especially those who are attending a brand new school or perhaps entering school for the very first time. And while bringing up school in early August might encroach on some summer fun, talking about back-to-school a bit early might help your child in the long run when it comes to walking through the doors that first morning back. Stop and listenWhile your tips and advice are always helpful, remember to use your ears more often than your mouth when it comes to helping out an anxious child. Quiet moments are okay in between conversation. Let them know that no question is off limits and if they would like to hear about your own experiences or perhaps an older siblings, that you are there for them. Have a planThings are always a little bit easier if you have a general idea of what is in store. Make sure your child knows how they will be getting to school, what they will be eating for lunch, and how they will be getting home. Make sure to attend meet-the-teacher night so you can walk your child to his or her class so they know the way on the first day. Letting your child's teacher know his or her worries before school starts so they know how best to handle your child's emotions. Start the routine earlyDon't wait until the night before school starts to set the school year bedtime. Those endless summer nights are coming to a close, so make sure your child gets in the habit of being in bed on time a few weeks before school starts. Let your child pick out his or her own backpack, school supplies, and pick a place to have everything ready to go each day of school. Letting your child help out will make them feel a little more at ease and in control. We just know that you and your child are going to have the best school year yet.Caring for those who need it most,Children's Home Healthcare
