Monticello, Minn. - Copperhead Industries Inc. installed new extrusion equipment at its headquarters to meet the growing demand for its copper-clad steel (CCS) tracer wire, which is used with a system that locates underground utilities.The extrusion system applies an high density polyethylene insulation around tracer wire and is sized to supply HDPE at the desired diameters consistent with tracer wire requirements.Founded in 2004, an official of the privately held Copperhead Industries said it partnered with extrusion equipment supplier Graham Engineering, which is based in York, Pa., to maintain close control over quality measures to meet their internal strict quality standards."Our ultimate goal is to continue providing a tracer wire system that utilities and engineers can trust to protect their underground assets. This new extrusion equipment will help us meet that goal," Copperhead Industries President Jeff Atwood said in a news release.Graham Engineering provided Copperhead with a complete American Kuhne wire system beginning with a dual payoff/accumulator system through the take-up, including all ancillary equipment. The turnkey system has closed-loop diameter control, on-line testing equipment to ensure real-time quality monitoring, and Graham Engineering's XC300 Navigator brand system controls.
