One day while surfing the net, I came upon this article which talks about making crude oil from waste plastic. It talks about a company in Oregon that is able to convert 7 - 10 pounds of waste plastic into one gallon of gasoline. The article goes on to say how the system vaporizes the plastic and condenses it into long-chain hydrocarbon soup. Refineries can then convert this into fuels such as diesel, jet fuel and gasoline. One module can cook 20 tons of waste plastic per day and make 130 barrels of oil from it.This article can be found at www.eco.allpurposeguru.com/2011/12/new-crude-oil-from-waste-plasticIt is interesting how modern technology has found a way to divert so much plastic from the landfill. This is something that has happened right here in Regina, Saskatchewan where household plastic is converted to plastic lumber suitable for decks, fences, picnic tables, benches and any other use you have that normally might use wood, but now can be built with plastic lumber. If we could convince everyone to recycle such items as their household plastic and keep it out of the landfill then we could create so many different products and even resources such as gasoline. It is up to all of us to make the change. I know it's tough but let's do it!!! It feels good!Check out the information in some of the blogs right here at www.crownshredandrecycling.com.
