Decorist Blog 5 Design Trends to Try This Fall

Fall has arrived, and peak leaf peeping season is also peak time to freshen up the look of your home. So why not integrate a few hot design trends for a renewed autumnal look? We don't necessarily think of rooms as seasonal, so we don't advise completely redesigning your space each season. However, there are certainly a few current design trends that just have that sense of warmth that every home needs when the temperature begins to drop. Keep reading to get inspired. A classic menswear material, this pattern, often in a cotton-linen blend, recalls crisp tattersall shirts paired with wool and cashmere sweaters. Decorator Virgina Tupker made a gorgeous statement with windowpane check in the bedroom of fashion writer Derek Blasberg, which was featured in Architectural Digest (above). Meanwhile, interior designer Ariel Okin used windowpane check more subtly-but still so chic!-in a pair of fireplace-facing chairs in the home of her New York clients (top). We love how San Francisco-based designer Katie Martinez chose cactus silk (another popular trend) in a rust hue to upholster a custom ottoman. It feels comfortable yet sophisticated-pumpkin-spice vibes with none of the kitsch and all of the class. Infuse your space with warm rust shades in bedding, throw pillows, blankets, artworks, or even upholstery if you're committed. We love this material for fall because it's not too dark or heavy and feels transitional. It has notes of summer, so to speak. Los Angeles-based designer Jake Arnold brought in this honey hue to a client's Hamptons master bedroom with a vintage leather settee at the foot of the bed. "Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking." Priestly was on point: Florals for spring certainly aren't groundbreaking, but for fall-interpreted in rich, moody hues-they do feel quite fresh. Decorist Celebrity designer Chloe Redmond Warner recently wallpapered a client's bedroom in Atherton, CA in a gorgeous floral/botanical print that makes the case for moody flowers. Paired with a mustard silk headboard and dusty peach curtains, it's dripping with romantic When Harry Met Sally fall vibes. Thankfully, knit pillows are having a major moment, so this trend is easy to adopt affordably. We love when textural accents in similar tones-like whites, creams, and grays-are layered.
