It was a grey, gloomy day in Santa Barbara -- one of the first like it this fall -- and a group of friends and I had plans to hit the Joah Brown warehouse sale just south of us, in Carpinteria. We'd been wanting to catch one since spring, but our schedules hadn't lined up for the monthly event; finally, "Yoga and Joah" made it to my Saturday morning calendar. We'd take a class and then head down. What awaited us in a big, boxy industrial building was a beautiful collection of ephemerally light clothes: we "oohed" and "ahhed" as our fingertips brushed over butter-soft fabrics in creams, browns, and blacks. Joah Brown prides itself on creating everyday wear -- "from barre to bar" they say -- but these items are anything but ordinary. They're versatile, classically cut pieces that fall just right, flattering every body type. At once timeless and current, they drape, loop, and land perfectly, and once my friends and I tried them on we couldn't take them off. We left with several pieces each. And there's another reason to love Joah Brown: their clothes are ethically made in nearby Los Angeles. In 2013, cousins Joah Brown and Sydney Brown Wagner created the first collection and have grown the company ever since. Today, they ship orders around the world, and you can find their pieces locally at Drishti -- one of their first retailers! As we move into autumn, these are the things I want to live in -- for yoga classes and beyond.Guest Piece by Camille Robins
