September 25, 2018 The Canadian subsidiary of American food firm Kraft Heinz Company announced Monday that its acquisition of Vancouver, BC-based certified organic, Fairtrade coffee roaster Ethical Bean Coffee has reached completion, expanding its position in the country's coffee market. "Kraft Heinz Canada is continuously looking for ways to deliver superior quality, extensive variety, and finer products to Canadians. We believe quality coffee starts at the source, which involves responsible sourcing and supporting the hard-working dedicated farmers at origin," said Carlos Piani, president of the subsidiary, in a statement. "The acquisition of Ethical Bean Coffee reinforces our pledge to the sustainable health of our people, our planet, and our company."The companies did not reveal the terms of the transaction. Ethical Bean was established in 2003 by Lloyd Bernhardt and Kim Schachte. "We are proud of what Ethical Bean has been able to accomplish over the past 15 years, building a brand with a solid reputation across North America for great tasting coffee, that is sustainably sourced," said Bernhardt in the release.
