Ever After & Forever Blog Now that my sister’s getting married (and I’m...

Now that my sister’s getting married (and I’m officially the matron of honor, woo hoo!), I tried to help as much as I could in terms of finding first and foremost, affordable venue options.  She and her future husband are paying for everything themselves so affordability is essential.  Since I had already gone through the wedding planning process myself last year, I offered to research different venues, vendors, resources, etc that would work with the budget she had to work with. While my sister researched and booked a venue without my help (ah well), this experience, as well as my own, made me realize that looking for affordable wedding resources in NYC or the tri-state area is incredibly difficult to find.  Anyone who lives in NYC knows that it’s one of the most expensive places to live, never mind to get married in.   SO, that being said, I have decided to share with you some of my wedding steals every week in order for brides on a budget to have some additional useful information (if they haven’t already found the information themselves, like my sister did). First and foremost, one of the most, if not THE most, important aspect to a wedding is the venue.  It pretty much dictates everything else that goes into the venue, based on what you have to work with.  While NYC is not known for decently priced venue options, they ARE possible to find and the Prospect Park Boathouse is one of those great options to consider.  Not only are you in one of the trendiest locations (no sleep ‘till Brooklyn!) but the money used to book the location goes directly to the NYC Parks Department.  In addition, the comprehensive website clearly illustrates the variety of charges (all incredibly reasonable), depending on the time of year with peak wedding periods being more expensive than off peak periods. On the con side, the venue is a little tricky to find and get to since it IS in the middle of a park but all in all, If you like the idea of getting married with a more botanical natural setting, The Boathouse at Prospect Park is definitely worth a look.
