Our August Spotlight features one of our Program Managers, Dylan Kesselring! Learn more about his role, hobbies, and most valuable lesson learned at Exsilio. Full Name: Dylan Kesselring Job Title: Project Manager Practice: Program Management When did you join Exsilio? June of 2018 Hometown: Issaquah, Washington, currently live in Bellevue, about 5 minutes from the office though. Alma Mater: Seattle Pacific University, Go Falcons! What was your major? Business Administration with a concentration in international business and marketing How would you explain your role here at Exsilio to a stranger? Really I just feel like a communication switch for the people that actually get work done haha! More realistically, my job is to make my team as efficient as possible, to remove blockers, and to make everything crystal clear - schedule, cost, scope, communication, team members, roles and responsibilities, and risks. This keeps our team and our stakeholders happy and moving towards the same goal. What does a typical work day look like for you? I spend most of my day sending emails, in meetings, or writing documentation. Communication is 95% of what I do. What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most? We have an amazing team here with some really incredible and nice people. Beyond that, I love how much I learn every day, how I am given responsibility to make an impact at the company, and that my work and responsibilities are changing regularly. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned so far at Exsilio? Always ask questions. Listening well does not just mean paying attention and nodding your head. Asking questions is the easiest way to show that you are interested, listening, and comprehending what people are talking about. In my first client visit I was afraid to ask questions because I thought that I would look like I didn't know what I was doing. The client was using acronyms specific to their workstream and describing very specific workflows. This is knowledge that no consultant would have, and so when I did not ask questions, it came across as me not being engaged or as me being over confident. I learned a lot from this visit and now ask questions whenever appropriate. What makes a great Exsilio employee? Hard working, team players that love to learn. What has been your favorite experience at Exsilio? It is hard to choose. I have loved opportunities to work with different teams here. I think my favorite experiences though are when I have seen our clients amazed by the work that we do. It is amazing when we are able to solve the problems/frustrations with automation and unique technical solutions. What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of work? What is your favorite activity to do in the Puget Sound area? I love the outdoors, and when the weather permits I like to spend my time running, hiking, swimming, or biking. I also like cooking, spending time with friends, watching tv series or movies, and playing video games and board games. Food that you can't live without? I mean I just really really like food in general. I don't think I could live without cheese. It is one of my favorite things. I also would really struggle to live without Italian food and Mexican food. If you were to plan your dream vacation, where would you be going? Well... I am getting very excited for my upcoming wedding and honeymoon to Hawaii - a week in Maui and a week in Kauai. That being said, I think my dream vacation would be a few months in Europe. I spent four months traveling Europe in college and would love to do the same thing with my Fiance/wife one day. Favorite Game (board or video)? I love board games and video games, and I have had a lot of favorites over the years, so I am going to do my current favorite for each. Board - Photosynthesis.
