FIAT of Scottsdale Blog The History of FIAT

New FIAT Inventory   FIAT originated in the late 1800s, and in 1900 the first FIAT factory opened. Over 100 years later, FIAT is still a world-renowned producer of unique, fun vehicles. FIAT continues to operate worldwide, and you can find FIAT vehicles for sale at our dealership and in many other locations. FIAT Begins FIAT started in Turin, Italy, in 1899. While FIAT is known for producing vehicles today, the company originally produced other equipment, including farm equipment and heavy machinery. FIAT quickly gained a leg up on competitors when it first started due to its highly skilled workers who possessed exceptional skills and knowledge in engineering. FIAT, like Volkswagen, was founded on the concept of producing cars en masse that were affordable and accessible to the public. FIAT's founder, Giovanni Agnelli, envisioned his company producing transportation to the masses that was affordable and practical. He also established FIAT to generate jobs and stimulate the economy. Agnelli's work and dedication paid off, and by 1910 FIAT was the largest automotive manufacturer in Italy. FIAT continues to hold that esteemed ranking today. FIAT's success continued through time. By the 1920s, FIAT had produced over 80% of all the vehicles sold in Italy. Even after WWII, when many other automakers and manufacturing companies suffered, FIAT continued to lead the way in auto production. FIAT Expands After decades of success in the auto industry, FIAT eventually expanded by acquiring other companies. One was Alfa Romeo SpA, which was a fellow Italian automaker. Later, General Motors Corporation (GM) and Chrysler both purchased shares in FIAT. While FIAT's partnership with GM ended, it continued to partner with Chrysler. The deal between the automakers resulted in a company called Chrysler Group LLC. Along with automobiles, the company produced trucks and tractors. FIAT Turns 100 In 1999, FIAT celebrated its 100th anniversary. To commemorate the historic milestone, FIAT chose to revamp its logo to a dark blue background with silver “FIAT” lettering and a circular laurel wreath. FIAT's logo was also placed on the company's other equipment, including farming equipment. FIAT's logo changed again in 2006 to reflect the wishes and interests of all the companies that FIAT owned and partnered with. The new logo featured a red background, a signature rounded shape, and signature chrome detailing along the edges. Contact us to learn more about FIAT's history and our FIAT cars for sale.
