Mark and Anne Dawson have brought the downtown cafe's breakfast to Keepers, which they own also on Amelia Drive, managed by their daughter Sabrina Dawson and her boyfriend Gaven Norton.Fog Island Café, long a fixture on South Water Street downtown, has moved to 5 Amelia Drive to join Keepers Restaurant. The restaurant, which will continue to be called Keepers, will have Fog Island's breakfast and the Keepers dinner and take-out lunch menus, with a mix of Fog and Keepers dishes sprinkled into each."We're not gone, we've just moved," said Mark Dawson, whose family owns and runs Fog Island and Keepers. "We're basically just injecting Keepers intravenously with some Fog juice."Dawson emphasized that fans of the café need not despair: favorites such as Fog Island breakfast sandwiches and scrambles can be found at 7:30 a.m. Thursday through Sunday. The Fog Island menu still provides those on island with classic, affordable dishes, Dawson said, just adding breakfast to Keepers' operation. Griddle options, omelets and Eggs Benedict from Fog are available as well as Keepers' favorites like a veggie bowl and morning enchiladas."They complement each other," Dawson's wife Anne said of the new collaboration. "There's really a synergy."The partnership fits with Keepers "pair and share" philosophy that encourages mixing and matching of different types of food as well as family-style dining. For lunch, Keepers offers salads, sandwiches and bowls. Its dinner menu features starters great for the whole table like smoked chicken wings, pulled-pork macaroni and cheese and Caribbean shrimp skewers; classic entrées including bacon-wrapped meatloaf, lemon-pepper crusted cod and chicken under a brick; sides and salads, as well as a kid's section.
