A plaque on the wall in the theatre's lobby indicates that over twenty years had passed since major construction work was done here. The Steve Forrester Lounge, with new flooring, lighting, mirrors, woodwork, carpeting, countertops, colour scheme and more, has completely modernized and replaced the familiar feel of the theatre's Green Room. The Steve Forrester Lounge memorializes Steve Forrester (1945-2022), a pillar of the arts community. Funding to the Belleville Theatre Guild came through many generous donations, large and small, by friends and relatives from all over the globe, as well as The Parrot Foundation, The City of Belleville, MKR Cabinets, and A-1 Plumbing. These donations have made the Steve Forrester Lounge a reality. Steve Forrester was a beloved teacher of both Theatre Arts and English at Moira Secondary School in Belleville, bringing musical theatre there. He mentored many young students, sometimes pushing them beyond their comfort level, in order for them to excel. Some of these same students now tread the boards on the stage of the Playhouse. As a member of the Belleville Theatre Guild, Steve contributed in all capacities to the theatre. From directing, acting set building and set design, he did it all. "Steve really brought out the best in everyone, he was always helping", said his wife, Moira. Steve's accomplishments within the theatre were many. His accolades include, Best Actor in "What I did last Summer" (1994), Best Director for "The Importance of Being Ernest" (1994), Best Director for "Talley's Folley" (2003), and Festival Hero for "Marion Bridge" (2018), Under his direction, both "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf" (1999) and "Talley's Folley" (2003), brought acting awards to cast members at the Eastern Ontario Drama League Festival, and went on to the all Ontario Festival. Just prior to his passing Steve was presented a plaque, on stage, thanking him for 50 years of continuous service. A group of hard working, paint splattered volunteers, has covered the faded green paint with an updated colour palette of aquamarine blue, and tones of grey. The new Steve Forrester Lounge is now complete under the watchful eye of Belleville Theatre Guild's contractor Marvin Tucker, a lasting memorial for all to enjoy. Fittingly, the first play welcoming theatre goers through the Steve Forrester Lounge, "The Wayside Motor Inn" is directed by Moira Nikander- Forrester, Steve Forrester's wife. A gala with ribbon cutting will take place on March 27th , the opening night to The Wayside Motor Inn, to recognize local dignitaries and supporters of the Belleville Theatre Guild.
