Frankfurt Airport: News Briefs: Fraport-China Southern, NTSB investigates, Maximus profits

Fraport Cargo Services will take over the cargo handling for China Southern Cargo at Frankfurt Airport, beginning February 25. FCS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fraport AG, one of the world's leading companies in the international airport business. Five weekly freighter turnarounds will fly between Guangzhou and Frankfurt. China Southern also serves the Shanghai-Frankfurt route six times per week. Fraport Cargo Services expects to handle an annual volume of 70,000 metric tons for China Southern in the future.The National Transportation Safety Board opened the accident docket into the investigation of the April 29, 2013 crash of a National Airlines 747 freighter at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. The carrier crashed on takeoff from Bagram on its way to Dubai. The probable cause and analysis of the accident will be released when the final report on the investigation is completed. All seven crew members were killed and the aircraft was destroyed.UAE's Maximus Air announced increased profits of 20 percent in 2014. The all-cargo specialists attributed the success to increased interest from European, African and Asian markets with growth expected to continue into 2015.Bespoke Distribution Aviation has passed the Civil Aviation Authority Security audit, so it may now process air cargo and meet all aviation security regulations. As a regulated agent for screening cargo, following a significant investment in new screening technology, BDA is already screening its own outbound freight to its Ireland hub, as well as inbound and outbound freight to its hubs in Frankfurt and Maastricht. The ability to screen outbound freight for Ireland, the Netherlands and Germany is good news for BDA considering recent growth in Irish logistics.A new FedEx Express hub at Central Illinois Regional Airport has brought air cargo back to the airport. Operations began February 2, with officials from the airport and FedEx express expressing excitement over the $5 million private-public partnership. This new hub will serve Champaign, Decatur and Springfield. FedEx Express also has a distribution facility in Peoria, serving the LaSalle-Peru, Bloomington and Peoria markets.UPS has expanded its Temperature True Packaging Service to include expert consultation, package procurement and new off-the-shelf, specially designed packaging for its customers. Each of the new cold-chain packaging lines was engineered, tested and pre-qualified by the manufacturer for use in UPS's U.S. domestic network. UPS's Temperature True Packaging supports more than 500 healthcare companies globally, with demand continuing to grow for cold-chain services.To create a more efficient operation, Delta Cargo and joint-venture partners Air France-KLM has moved under one roof at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport in Paris effective February 10. Transfer processes will operate more efficiently, and customers will have more frequent routing options with the benefit of the broader network. Customers will now be able to tender and recover shipments involving the partners without making multiple stops.
