Graham's Carpet Network Blog Common Stain Removal Mistakes

If you remove a stain incorrectly, you could end up making it worse! No one wants to live with stains in their carpet, but unfortunately, many people end up making stains worse while attempting to remove them! If you want to keep the stains out of your caret, you need to know about the stain removal mistakes to avoid. The following is a list from our Fort Collins flooring professionals of a few common stain removal mistakes that can make stains worse: Mistake #1. Scrubbing the stain. Scrubbing seems like the ultimate solution for removing stains, but it can actually force the stain deeper into the carpet. Additionally, it can cause the carpet fibers to untwist, leading to a distorted pile. Instead of scrubbing, blot your carpet stains with a clean cloth. Mistake #2. Putting off cleaning until you get the right products. The right products can help, but the longer you let the stain sink into your carpet, the worse it will get. Luckily, by simply removing any solids and soaking up any liquids, you can help to counteract the stain until you can get to the store to purchase the right products. Mistake #3. Saturating your carpet with too much carpet cleaner. More is not always better, and that is especially true when it comes to your carpet. If you pour on too much carpet cleaner, your chances of getting it all out are slim. The residue that is left behind from carpet cleaner can actually attract more dirt. Instead, apply a small amount of carpet cleaner to a washcloth, and add more to the cloth as you need it. Learn about more common stain removal mistakes when you stay tuned for our next blog.
