As a mompreneur and, more importantly, a parent, I like to stay on top of the latest food trends and industry news. Last week, I learned about McDonald's' attempt to gain more consumer trust through a "transparent" marketing campaign. For a very long time, people have been curious about the REAL ingredients that are in McDonald's' products and it wasn't until recently that McDonald's decided to share the facts about their food. The fast food chain is answering consumers' questions via social media channels and through informative webisodes that provide insightful facts about their ingredients. While I acknowledge their efforts to be more health conscious, it still doesn't change the fact that their products are, to the core, extremely unhealthy. Their six piece chicken nuggets meal, alone, hold 540 mg of sodium, 280 empty calories, 160 of which are from fat and have 32 ingredients! Fast food will never be healthy. We actually wrote this post about chicken nuggets that may surprise you. And if your kids are chicken nugget fans, consider our healthy gluten-free chicken nuggets, that are both kid tested and mom approved. In other news, there's been some buzz about individuals confusing "gluten-free" with "healthy" and making the two synonymous. Many gluten-free enthusiasts falsely believe that partaking in a gluten-free diet will help with weight loss, and there has been no factual research to prove this. It is important for consumers to understand that being gluten-free is not a workout alternative they can just jump on board with. Rather, it is, a lifestyle change that is necessary for those suffering from Celiac Disease or digestive problems, and while it can help get you on the right track to a healthier diet, it should by no means be a substitute for exercise. The important thing to remember is that you have to do your research and learn the facts about what a gluten-free lifestyle entails. Speaking of exercise and healthy living, I am happy to share that Green Plate Foods products are available at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa. This Houston institution was named one of the top resorts and hotels in the world by Travel and Leisure. Next time you visit Houston, I highly recommend this amazing hotel and club that obviously has great taste in food and cares about guests' health and happiness! Remember to #CraveHealthy! - Lisa
