Green Plate Foods Blog Get Healthy Before the New Year's Resolution Season

We all know eating healthy can be challenging, especially during the holidays. With the upcoming holiday parties, dinners and get togethers we look forward to each year, staying healthy is usually the last thing on our minds. While it's ok to indulge a little, sometimes I think it's best to get a jump on the unhealthy lifestyle before it gets to far along. With that said, one of the big things you can do to jumpstart a healthy lifestyle is to get started now! Why wait until the beginning of next year to make a New Year's Resolution when you can start now? I know, it sounds like a far stretch, especially with the abundance of food that we tend to dive into during the holiday festivities. Not to worry! I've gathered a couple attainable resolutions to consider this year that produce big health payoffs. 1. Get More Sleep- Getting adequate sleep helps you feel more energized and it's the best way to help your mind and body function at its best. Sleeping even allows you to generate more calcium in the bones! As simple as this may seem to be, sometimes our busy schedules don't allow us to get a full 8 hours rest. Consider eliminating all late night intake so your digestive system doesn't keep you up, and find out how much sleep time your body needs by sleeping without interruptions. I find that when I get a good night's rest, I'm fully charged and prepared to tackle on the next day. 2. Cook at Home- As a mompreneur, I spend long hours at work and understand how difficult it is sometimes to come home after a long day and have to prepare a full meal for the family. While relying on restaurant food after long days may sound convenient, remember that take out comes in large portions, and are higher in fat and sodium than a home-cooked meal. To ensure that you don't fall victim to take out, plan out your meals for the week. You can also let Green Plate Foods help by stocking up on some of our healthy treats such as our Cherry Chocolate Nubblers, which are nutrient dense and filling. 3. Cut Back on Sugars- Did you know that Americans consume 130 pounds of sugar a year? That's too much sweetness for anyone! Overindulging in treats with an insane amount of sugar not only increases your waistline, but also your chances for diseases. Consider reducing the amount of sugar intake by enjoying natural sweets, such as fruits, sweet potato, and prevent cravings before they start by eating regularly throughout the day.
