Greyhound: Greyhound to be booted from West Loop station by mid-September, CEO says

<p>The chief executive of American bus giant Greyhound says the city of Chicago could face a major service disruption in the coming weeks if the city does not intervene.</p><p>Greyhound and other bus carriers are set to be evicted from their longtime station in the West Loop in mid-September. The city hasn't offered a viable alternative with indoor accommodations.</p><p>The bus lines' mostly low-income riders may soon find themselves waiting outdoors with their belongings and without restrooms or protection from harsh weather.</p><p>"It's becoming urgent," Kai Boysan, CEO of Greyhound and Flix North America, told the Sun-Times "We're dangerously close to a major service disruption."</p><div class="Enhancement" data-align-hangRight> <div class="Enhancement-item" data-crop=""> <figure class="Figure"><a class="AnchorLink" id="image-430000" name="image-430000"></a> <picture data-crop="medium"> <source type="image/webp" width="490" height="275" data-srcset="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/34fb63e/2147483647/strip/true/crop/6000x3367+0+316/resize/490x275!/format/webp/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fe2%2Fb1%2Fb6bf6add4b1091e38c799b55293c%2Fboysan-kai-highres.jpg 1x,https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/3d5dba1/2147483647/strip/true/crop/6000x3367+0+316/resize/980x550!/format/webp/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fe2%2Fb1%2Fb6bf6add4b1091e38c799b55293c%2Fboysan-kai-highres.jpg 2x" data-lazy-load="true" srcset="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZlcnNpb249IjEuMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIyNzVweCIgd2lkdGg9IjQ5MHB4Ij48L3N2Zz4=" /> <source width="490" height="275" data-srcset="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/a93e9cc/2147483647/strip/true/crop/6000x3367+0+316/resize/490x275!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fe2%2Fb1%2Fb6bf6add4b1091e38c799b55293c%2Fboysan-kai-highres.jpg" data-lazy-load="true" srcset="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZlcnNpb249IjEuMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIyNzVweCIgd2lkdGg9IjQ5MHB4Ij48L3N2Zz4=" /> <img class="Image" alt="Boysan_Kai_HighRes.jpg" srcset="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/a93e9cc/2147483647/strip/true/crop/6000x3367+0+316/resize/490x275!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fe2%2Fb1%2Fb6bf6add4b1091e38c799b55293c%2Fboysan-kai-highres.jpg 1x,https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/40512ac/2147483647/strip/true/crop/6000x3367+0+316/resize/980x550!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fe2%2Fb1%2Fb6bf6add4b1091e38c799b55293c%2Fboysan-kai-highres.jpg 2x" width="490" height="275" data-src="https://cst.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/a93e9cc/2147483647/strip/true/crop/6000x3367+0+316/resize/490x275!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchorus-production-cst-web.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com%2Fbrightspot%2Fe2%2Fb1%2Fb6bf6add4b1091e38c799b55293c%2Fboysan-kai-highres.jpg" data-lazy-load="true" src="data:image/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZlcnNpb249IjEuMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIyNzVweCIgd2lkdGg9IjQ5MHB4Ij48L3N2Zz4=" > </picture> <div class="Figure-content"><figcaption class="Figure-caption"><p>Kai Boysan, chief executive of Greyhound and Flix North America</p></figcaption><span class="line"></span><div class="Figure-credit"><p>Provided</p></div></div> </figure> </div> </div><p>Boysan said Greyhound has been working with the city and its Department of Transportation for more than a year to find a viable alternative with indoor amenities.</p><p>Stakeholders have zeroed in on one potential solution, Boysan said, but he refused to say what that was.</p><p>"We've been collaborating for over a year, and it's time to make a decision," Boysan said.</p><div class="RelatedList Enhancement" data-module data-align-center> <div class="RelatedList-title">Related</div> <ul class="RelatedList-items"> <li class="RelatedList-items-item"> <a class="Link" href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/2023/6/26/23762618/greyhound-bus-station-chicago-terminal-transportation-department" target="_blank" >How could potential sale of Greyhound station in downtown Chicago affect bus riders at regional hub?</a> </li> <li class="RelatedList-items-item"> <a class="Link" href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/transportation/2024/05/07/greyhound-bus-terminal-west-loop-depaul-report" target="_blank" >City Hall thrown under the bus: Report rips 'do nothing' effort to save Greyhound terminal</a> </li> </ul> </div> <p>The city only has five or six weeks until bus operators are booted from the station at 630 W.
