Currently, hybrid and plug-in electric vehicles make up around 5% of Honda's global sales according to sources like Fortune and the Wall Street Journal. But Chief Executive Officer Takahiro Hachigo, appointed recently to spur forward this iconic automaker, has plans. While drivers in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Port Orange, Deltona, and Sanford do have access to great new vehicles like the Honda Accord Hybrid and the Civic Hybrid, and the compact and fun Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid, by 2030 we may find ourselves with a much more expansive selection of eco-friendly green cars.At a recent news conference, a confident Takahiro Hachigo laid out long-term plans to prioritize environmentally-friendly cars in the lineup, with a strong push toward plug-in vehicles that can be charged fully at home or on the road, and which will require little or absolutely no fossil fuels.Mr. Hachigo has also expressed plans to shake up the structure of development teams to better use resources and delegate tasks. As a global brand that is known well for the durability and reliability of its vehicles--and the impressive efficiency and quality of its powertrains--Honda appears very confident in its commitment to creating more gas-electric hybrids, plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles, and even fuel-cell vehicles over the next few decades. But, as with the variety of other automakers claiming the same commitments, only time will tell.Should you be looking for a new car earlier than the year 2030, we'd encourage you to explore the efficient new Honda lineup at our Dayton Beach dealership; whether you're ready to embrace an eco-friendly car now, or you just prefer the everyday economy of a great new Honda model, we've got something for you.
