My children grew up swimming competitively and they and my wife always wanted me to have a pool installed in our backyard, I resisted! Aside from the financial costs of having a pool I had other reasons for not wanting one, one of those reasons is the legal liability that comes with owning a pool. Most people install a pool and suddenly they have friends and children's friends all wanting to come over and use the pool. Unfortunately, there are increased risk of bodily injury associated with pools (and for that matter trampolines) and even higher exposures when you have a diving board or slide. Now does that mean that I am against owning a pool or a trampoline? NO! However, you just need to understand your exposures and weigh the risks versus the reward.
