There are few things that we, as a company, feel more strongly about than cancer. breast cancer to be specific. Why? Because the data frankly scares the living daylights out of us. Consider that 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. Or that 1 in 3 cancers among women in this country is breast cancer. What about the fact that 85% of cases occur with no family history of breast cancer?Scary right?The truth is that sooner or later we will all know someone whose life has been impacted by breast cancer. So in a very real sense, we're ALL fighting breast cancer, not just those who have been diagnosed with it. So how do we fight it? While breast cancer can strike at any age, statistics from the American Cancer Society show that women 40 and older are 10 times more likely to develop the disease. That said, when breast cancer does strike younger women, it tends to be more aggressive and less responsive to treatment, according to a study by Duke University. Please do share this data with other women, as it's so important that we understand our risks at every age. Whatever your age, go get that mammogram if you haven't already.Eat healthy - we can't stress this enough. While no diet or food can help you prevent breast cancer, what you eat can boost your immune system and keep you at your healthiest. Being overweight is a risk factor for both first-time and recurrent breast cancers. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, limit your fat intake to less than 20% of your daily calorie intake, and mix up your protein options.
