In an effort to help educate our customers about their vehicles, our mechanics wanted too pass along some important information on how the brake pads work on a vehicle with a disc brake system.
In order to slow down your vehicle when the brake pedal is depressed, the brake pads need to be in good working condition. The brake rotor is attached to the wheel, and will spin as the wheels spin. The brake caliper is attached to the brake rotor, and squeezes onto the brake rotor to bring it to a stop as you brake.
In between the caliper piston and brake rotor are the brake pads. These pads act like buffers, and will slowly wear away as they bring the rotor and tire to a stop. If the pads are not serviced in the allotted time, the metal rivets are exposed and can do damage to the brake rotors over time.
