For me, it's crucial to do a Value Study prior to the painting. So, what I've been doing lately is making this study with black and white watercolor paint in a sketch pad. Making any adjustments to the values and shapes before I commit to painting it. Good shapes are important!!! Value Study First Then I painted a small painting of this bird and liked it enough to make a larger painting. 5x7 Study - $125 I added a couple more birds to this larger piece to help utilize the space.
