KeyCDN Blog KeyCDN Launches POP in Romania

Today we're excited to announce that we've launched yet another POP location to help further supercharge our network's content delivery speeds. Our newest point of presence has been launched in Bucharest, Romania! The new POP is in production and has been automatically added to all existing zones.POP in Bucharest Further Expands Content Delivery to RomaniaWith the introduction of a POP in Bucharest, our presence in Europe grows even stronger. With Bucharest being the capital and largest city of Romania, it makes for a great edge server location. Before the implementation of our Bucharest POP, Romanian users were delivered content from our surrounding KeyCDN POPs. The next closest active POP location to Bucharest was Istanbul which was still almost 900km away; this distance adds up in terms of latency. However, now with the Bucharest edge server in production, it helps further close the gap between visitors who live in Romania and the nearest KeyCDN POP they have access to. As of 2016, Bucharest alone had a population of over 1.83 million people. As for Romania, it covers an area of over 238,000 square kilometers and as of 2017 had a population of almost 20 million.Growth Of Internet in RomaniaAlthough the Internet penetration rate isn't as high as other Countries, at 58% as of 2016, the Internet speeds in Romania have been known to be one of the fastest in the world. According to Wikipedia, Romania ranked 5th place worldwide for the average connection speed of 38.60Mb/s. Here are some additional statistics about the usage and growth of Internet in Romania:There are currently 10.26 million Romanian eCommerce users who spend an average of $237.38 USD each online annually. The largest majority of Romanian online shoppers purchase via desktop (87%).The average Internet speed in Romania has been increasing dramatically. In 2017, the average speed was 21.33Mb/s ranking them 18th in the world. How to Check if Content is Delivered From BucharestEach POP adds the HTTP response header X-Edge-Location to all assets delivered via KeyCDN. In this case, the Bucharest POP's identifier is robu. The first two letters stand for the country TLD, while the 3rd and 4th letters are for the city. You can quickly check the response headers using Chrome Dev Tools, a speed test tool, or a simple cURL command like the one below:curl -I https://cdn.domain.com/img/logo.svg HTTP/2 200 Server: keycdn-engine Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2019 13:37:01 GMT Content-Type: image/svg+xml Content-Length: 12557 Connection: keep-alive Vary: Accept-Encoding Last-Modified: Tue, 15 Jan 2019 19:41:04 GMT ETag: "57e91170-310d" Expires: Thu, 17 Jan 2019 13:37:00 GMT Cache-Control: max-age=604800 X-Cache: HIT X-Edge-Location: robu Accept-Ranges: bytesCheck on the Bucharest POP's StatusIt's extremely important to us that we maintain a 100% uptime rate to ensure that your content is always properly delivered from the nearest POP location.
