The Maui Planning Commission has approved a special management area use permit for a $230 million proposed redevelopment of Makena Beach & Golf Resort, whose owners want to turn the existing 310-room hotel into 46 luxury apartment units and add a new 76-room hotel and 12 condominium units at the 1,800-acre resort.
