May Field: Mayfield Dairy closing Georgia plant

Mayfield Dairy Farms is closing its Braselton plant and laying off 108 workers, the Gainesville Times reports. The Mayfield plant has been open at least a decade, the paper says, and for much of that time it operated a popular visitors center where people could take tours and buy souvenirs and ice cream. The company announced earlier this year that the visitors center would close on Aug. 31. Mayfield Dairy is owned by Dallas-based Dean Foods.
