You may have heard through Facebook that I'm now based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Since relocating here last month I've been forging forward with a few shoots both commercial, for buyers and for personal projects. Getting my gear here was a skill unto itself. I decided to bring the least amount of equipment which ended up being the Phase One and a Nikon D3S with my smaller Fuji x100 in my jacket. I prioritised gear that was important and therefore absolutely needed to accompany me in carry-on luggage. This was placed into a Think Tank Airstream and included the camera bodies and lenses. Lights, batteries and other accessories were unfortunately relegated to checked luggage. In terms of lights, all I have brought with me is a single Elinchrom Quadra pack and a head (the action one for fast sync) and a Nikon SB900. Modifiers are a few gels and my trusty Elinchrom Deep Octa which barely fitted in my suitcase. My next stop after arriving in Vietnam was a week in Manila where I did a couple of shoots over a week along with some pretty long nights watching some great bands. If you haven't already, check out For The Love Of Music, a project I did in the Philippines in 2012. Music in the Philippines is seriously great.Manila proved to be a different problem. I had only carry on luggage and a small amount of check-in luggage. I opted to leave the Nikon gear at home and only took the Phase and Fuji. One of the things I wanted to do was shoot with both and compare. All up I managed to scrape in with weight (I think I was 15.2kgs, only 0.2kgs over). This month I've got a couple of more serious jobs on and will be trying to get some additional personal work in including some street photography around Saigon. In the meantime here's some images from a shoot with a Manila based model, Iane. She put up with me changing cameras all the way through the shoot. The idea was to capture some B&W images for a buyer as well as compare output between the Fuji and the Phase.
