Mixamo: Adobe acquires Mixamo

Adobe has acquired 3D character creation and animation outfit Mixamo.Adobe plans to integrate the technology into Photoshop Creative Cloud to improve its 3D capabilities and allow users to create, customise, manipulate, rig and animate 3D content.It's not yet clear how the acquisition will affect Mixamo's current suite of products, such as the recently launched Mixamo 2 and character creation tool Fuse, in the long-term. During the coming months, the firm will not be accepting new paid users, though developers can sign up for free.Current subscribers will be able to continue to fully use its services until December 31st, 2015. Payment plans that run out before then will automatically be extended to this date.Those who recently paid to use Mixamo's tools and animations will not be eligible for a refund, though these users will receive an automatic six-month extension at no additional charge. Content made in Mixamo will remain royalty-free."From content through capabilities, integrating Mixamo into Creative Cloud provides an incredible platform for more 3D innovation in the future," said Adobe VP of products and digital imaging Winston Hendrickson."With this acquisition, we are excited to offer greater value to customers while introducing a new way of working to our design community that is looking to push the limits with 3D tools."
