Montessori West Christian School Blog Montessori vs. Day Care

Environment plays a critical role in the development of a child. At Montessori West Christian School our goal is to help children develop within themselves the foundational habits, attitudes, skills and ideas that are essential for a lifetime of creative thinking and learning. In order to attain this goal, we have carefully and thoughtfully organized our classrooms in a way that stimulates and challenges even our youngest students. Here are a few differences between our Montessori classrooms and a typical day care or child care facility:The classroom belongs to the students, not the teacher. Everything is sized to fit the needs of the children. Tables, chairs, hand washing sinks, mirrors, artwork, and working materials are all appropriate for the child's size. There is not a desk or chair(s) for the teacher(s). This is an area where the adults are facilitators, serving to meet the needs and follow the child as he is ready for the next challenge. There are not any TV's in a Montessori classroom. Unlike traditional day care or child care facilities, we have created an atmosphere that invites children to learn and grow, not a place where children are simply entertained. With an emphasis on grace, we incorporate the Bible teachings into everyday activities and interactions. Because grace and courtesy are woven into the Montessori curriculum, we can easily reference our Bible teachings throughout the day.Would you like to know more about how our child care, preschool, and kindergarten programs are different from other day care and child care facilities? Come see for yourself! I would be delighted to schedule a personal tour of our school! Please call Harriett Victor, Director, at (864) 576-5414 to schedule your visit.
