I've just been diagnosed with diabetes. How will this affect my feet? That question may not be the first to pop in your mind when you are first told you've been diagnosed with diabetes, but it is most definitely a top question to put focus on. Diabetes can be an overwhelming disease if you know nothing about it prior to being diagnosed. We want to always make sure our patients are fully aware of what they can prevent from happening. Foot complications generally occur among diabetics if they do not take proper care of their feet. Common complications can be:Foot ulcers or sores that have trouble healingLoss of feeling in your feetAmputations - when conditions get too extremeSurprisingly, your feet could have been giving you warning signs of diabetes for quite some time. Some warning signs consist of numbness, redness, swelling, or wounds that will not heal. Having routine foot exams is very important for those who experience any of these signs of diabetes, or for those who have been previously diagnosed.
