Numotion: In brief: Numotion reports data incident, Abbott launches app

PHOENIX - Numotion recently learned that certain employee email accounts were accessed without authorization on several occasions between Sept. 2, 2024, and Nov. 18, 2024, the company said in a Notice of Data Security Incident posted on its website. In the notice, the company states: "Numotion has no reason to believe that anyone was trying to access personal information in the accounts, and there is no indication that any information has been used for fraud or identity theft. Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, Numotion undertook an extensive review of the emails that may have been accessed. On January 22, 2025, we determined that the emails at-issue contained some customers' information." The type of information that may have been viewed varied, but could have included names, dates of birth, product information, payment and financial account information, health insurance information, medical information, and for a minority of individuals social security numbers and driver's license numbers, Numotion stated. The company has sent letters to potentially involved individuals for whom it has a valid mailing address and has arranged for complimentary identity theft protection services for those individuals whose Social Security numbers were involved in the incident. In an email to HME News the company said: "At Numotion, we take data security seriously and prioritize ongoing efforts to minimize risks, employing industry-standard practices. Following this incident, we conducted a comprehensive review of our security policies and implemented several enhanced measures to further strengthen our defenses." Medtronic sensor receives FDA clearance GALWAY, Ireland - Medtronic has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the Simplera Sync sensor for use with the MiniMed 780G system. With this approval, the MiniMed 780G system now offers more flexibility for users of the company's most advanced insulin delivery system featuring Meal Detection technology with both the Guardian 4 sensor and Simplera Sync sensor. Biosensor tech company secures $100M investment SAN DIEGO - Biolinq, a healthcare technology company of biosensors, has received a $100 million Series C financing led by Alpha Wave Ventures, with participation from existing investors RiverVest Venture Partners, AXA IM Alts, LifeSci Venture Partners, M Ventures, Hikma Ventures, Aphelion Capital, Taisho Pharmaceutical and Features Capital. The funding will support Biolinq through the US regulatory approval process as the company prepares to bring the first autonomous intradermal glucose sensor to market. Biolinq's initial product is a wearable biosensor powered by an array of tiny electrochemical sensors that measure glucose levels continuously just beneath the skin's surface. Florida woman pleads guilty to braces fraud CONCORD, N.H. - A Florida woman plead guilty April 15 in federal court in Concord in connection with her role in a conspiracy to defraud Medicare of $3.3 million. Yolanda Dupont, 38, of New Port Richey, Fla., plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.According to court documents, Dupont and her co-conspirators owned and operated Allstar Medical Supply Corp., a purported durable medical equipment business in New Hampshire selling orthotic braces. As part of the conspiracy, Dupont served as the nominee owner of the business to conceal the identities of the true owners. During the conspiracy, Dupont and her co-conspirators submitted, or caused the submission of, approximately $3.3 million in false and fraudulent claims for orthotic braces to Medicare. Medicare paid at least $1.6 million to Dupont and her co-conspirators for these claims. Ultimately, Medicare beneficiaries received orthotic braces that were medically unnecessary, ineligible for reimbursement, and often not wanted or needed. Dupont faces the possibility of a sentence of no greater than 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 or twice the pecuniary gain. Sentencing is scheduled for July 22, 2025. Features include: automatic data streaming; silent mode, in which users of the FreeStyle Libre 3 can silence alarms for up to six hours; optional gradual alarms to discreetly alert users to high or low glucose levels; and easier navigation.
