True Value: Hardware company files for bankruptcy protection, will sell itself to competitor

Hardware wholesaler True Value Co. LLC has filed for bankruptcy protection and plans to sell itself to a rival. The 4,500 retail stores it serves are independently owned and not part of the bankruptcy, with the exception of one company-owned store.
